Rowling wrote her first story, called Rabbit, at the age of six.After graduation, Rowling worked as a translator. During this time, on a particularly long train journey in the summer of 1990, the idea came to her of a boy who is a wizard but doesn’t know it.In 1992 Rowling moved to Portugal and fell in love with a Portuguese TV journalist. When her marriage ended in divorce, Rowling returned to Britain with a suitcase full of notes about Harry Potter and his adventures. She went to live near her sister in Edinburgh. She spent her time looking after her baby daughter and writing the first Harry Potter book.When the book appeared in 1997 it was an instant success. The last book in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, appeared ten years later and became the fastest selling book of all time. The publishers have translated the series into 65 languages.With the Harry Potter saga at an end, J. K. Rowling is dedicating her time and money to charities across the globe.
